Well, that escalated!
Over the last 24 hours I've had feedback, thanks and more information
about what may have happened. So I think given the traffic to
this recovered site went through the roof ,I need to clear a few things
up.
Who are you?
My name is Richard, or Rich. I'm a long term fan and follower of the
site, I live local and know the "Hill" well and have been exploring and
digging into the history myself as well. The site has formed part of my
resources for so long that finding the site gone was actually quite
upsetting.
I run my own business based not far away looking after the emergency
serivices and the care sector as well as general IT support. This has
given me the resources to save the site.
The "Hill" has formed part of my life for longer than I care to remeber
and there is just so much up there that this site is an invaluable
guide to anyone that is curious about what is there, what they might
have found or just local history.
What about Bob Hunt?
I'm still trying to find out more information, however what information
has been forthcoming is that Bob was ill and passed away at the end of
last year. When I find out more and if it can be done respectfully I'll
publish more
What has been done already?
After getting the site recovered and re-uploaded I've taken the time to
check the site through as best I can and removed contact information
for Bob. New email addresses and contacts have been provided so things
can keep moving. After yesterday's Facebook page people REALLY want
this site to live and also want to get in touch. Getting email back was
vital for this. Some grammar connections have been made on the contact
page. A few things that have been broken a while have been fixed to
keept the site consistant with Bob's vision. We've added pages to keep
visitors up to date but the content has not changed
What's the plan Stan?
Right now, there isnt one. More tidying and keeping things ticking over
while the future of the site is considered. Rest assured that the
content and this version of the site will remain online for the
foreseeable future. There is an immense appetite to keep the site going
and even add to it and I think that's where it needs to go. The site as
it stands isnt really suited to this so that will need looking at
before going much further.
Long term the site needs updating as there are some issues with the
coding and how it renders, this is, to be clear, a result of technology
moving forward and nothing more. The likley route will be a move to
Wordpress, however, this site will be archived and left intact as is.
What about the material?
Everything on here up to and including the site is still the product of
Bob's hard and dilligent work, to that end myself and my company are
just custodians and no claim is made to own any of the original
materal. Moving forwar I want this site to carry on as Bob intended, in
the public domain.
Why is the original domain gone?
That rescuing the site was even possible was nothing short of amazing.
However rescuing the domain, right now, isn't possible. The domain is
still active and paid for but there is nothing we can do about this
right now.
